Houseman / Butler / Valet Role in Surrey


An opportunity has become available for a professional, discreet and well-mannered butler/houseman/valet for a couple living in rural Surrey. The role involves overseeing all aspects of running the household, working alongside a houseman who is already employed. The family are in residence at the property for roughly half of the year. Whilst the family is in residence, additional hours will need to be worked, although these can be recovered when the principals are away.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management of service at dinner parties and family dinners

  • Laundry and wardrobe management

  • Packing and unpacking

  • Driving the principals to appointments and social engagements as required

  • Basic cooking for the family- this may include simple breakfasts and lunches

  • Occasionally helping out in the home with basic DIY and maintenance, ensuring the property is always in good working order

  • Purchasing for and receiving deliveries to the house

  • Walking the principal’s dogs

  • Overseeing and managing cleaners and other contractors


Key Requirements and Desirable Attributes

  • Experience of working in a private household

  • A high level of professionalism and amenability

  • Exceptional level of discretion and understanding of confidentiality

  • Flexibility in terms of working hours

  • Ability to use initiative and respond proactively to changing situations and ad hoc requests

  • Ability to follow orders swiftly and efficiently

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Well presented with high standards of personal grooming


Start date: ASAP

Live in or out: live in, shared apartment with one other member of staff with own bedroom

Salary: £40k per annum
