Chef and Front of House Couple Job Sutherland Scotland


Greycoat Lumley’s client are seeking a couple for their Wilderness Reserve in Sutherland. The Reserve is rapidly developing its hospitality business and are looking for a couple who can help them to grow further. There has been many changes and the team has grown substantially and there is an Operations and Hospitality Manager who is leading the way towards an enjoyable and rewarding working and living environment.


If you join the team, you will be joining a team which is as passionate about conservation and the Scottish landscapes, as it is about hospitality.


Chef Duties

  • Offering top-quality family style cuisine to international guests from a couple to groups of 28

  • Catering for large events throughout the year

  • Responsibility of running the kitchen

  • Planning and organising purchases

  • Calculating costings for bookings

  • Serving a wide range of dishes from vegan to home grown venison

  • Developing the cottage catering service offering

  • A passion for local and home grown produce

  • Happy to interact with guests, happily talk about the food they are enjoying and the ethos of the reserve


Front of House Duties

Someone who can help the team take their hospitality to the next level.


  • To adhere to the ethos of ‘being available, but not intrusive’

  • Able to welcome and comfortably host a wide range of people; from easy going nature lovers to wealthy and demanding individuals

  • Building good rapport with guests

  • Solving day to day problems

  • Able to accommodate all requests including proactively seeking to enhance the guests stay

  • Right-hand person to our Operations Manager and take responsibility when he is away. Including answering phone queries for bookings, planning and diarising stays, invoicing and managing household purchases.


Between them, the couple should be able to operate the hospitality side of the reserve on their own when the Hospitality Manager is away and work closely with the reserve and the housekeeping teams.


Our client is looking for business acumen and awareness, good communication skills, attention to detail, passion for food and all things hospitality, understanding of service levels and styles, flair for nature and ambition to achieve the highest levels of service possible.


The location is 1½ hour North of Inverness, making it very remote and this is somethings that applicants need to consider seriously.


Start date: April 1st 2019


Salary: £60,000 total per annum £30K each


Accommodation: 2 bedroom 1st floor apartment (renovated 2 years ago)


There is new accommodation being built on the reserve – estimated for June 2019 completion. It is a 1 bedroom house, away from the main lodge with amazing views over the valley and hills. Designed to feel like an outdoor living experience while being very comfortable. The proportions of the property are very comfortable for a couple.


All utilities and council tax for the property are included in the package




The roles are full time but have a long annual break – the working year is from April 1st through to January 6th with an approximate 3 months paid for a break. The couple are free to do whatever they please in that time although the reserve owner has many connections around the world and is able to arrange potential work on other reserves i.e. in South Africa.


It is expected that working hours will be long during the working months compensated for with the long winter break.
