Chief Engineer - Bahamas - Unique & exciting opportunity in the Caribbean
Location: Private Estate, Bahamas
Position Type: Full-Time, Live-in
Reporting to: Estate Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking a versatile and highly skilled Chief Engineer to lead the restoration and ongoing technical management of an ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) waterside estate in the Bahamas. This role requires a unique combination of maritime engineering expertise and luxury residential facility management. The successful candidate will oversee the "re-commissioning" of estate systems, implement rigorous preventative maintenance schedules, and ensure the property operates at a 7-star standard year-round.
Key Responsibilities
System Restoration: Audit, repair, and optimize all existing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems following a period of restoration.
Water & Power Utilities: Manage and maintain critical life-support systems for the estate, including Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plants, backup generators, and solar power arrays.
Marine Infrastructure: Oversee the maintenance of private docks, bulkheads, boat lifts, and a fleet of tenders or watercraft.
HVAC & Climate Control: Maintain sophisticated HVAC systems designed for high-humidity, salt-air environments to protect the estate’s interior and fine art collections.
Project Management: Supervise third-party contractors and specialist technicians, ensuring all work on-site meets the highest standards of discretion and quality.
Smart Home Integration: Manage Lutron/Crestron systems, IT infrastructure, and high-level security/surveillance tech.
Emergency Response: Serve as the primary lead for hurricane preparedness and rapid-response repairs during tropical weather events.
Candidate Profile
Experience: 5+ years of engineering experience, ideally split between large-scale luxury estates and/or 50m+ Superyachts (Y1/Y2/Y3 or equivalent certifications are highly desirable).
Technical Versatility: Deep "hands-on" knowledge of diesel engines, electrical distribution, refrigeration, and automated control systems.
Island Literacy: Previous experience working in the Caribbean or remote locations; understanding the logistics of importing parts and managing local supply chains is essential.
Attributes: Highly organized, proactive, and capable of maintaining professional "invisible" service when the principal is in residence.
