Live-in Domestic Couple Job in East Sussex

A private household in Sussex is seeking an experienced and reliable live-in domestic couple to take full responsibility for the day-to-day running, care and maintenance of a countryside estate. This is a hands-on position, well suited to a practical, self-sufficient couple who take pride in keeping a home beautifully presented and running smoothly. The property is the family’s second home and includes the main house, outbuildings and surrounding gardens. The family are not in residence full time, so the role would suit a couple who are confident working independently, using their initiative and maintaining high standards at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities

Household and Property Care

  • Full housekeeping duties, including cleaning, laundry, ironing and household organisation

  • Ongoing care and upkeep of the interior of the property

  • Monitoring household systems and liaising with contractors when required

  • Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs

  •  Receiving deliveries and overseeing property security

  • Basic family cooking when required

  • Driving duties as needed; at least one candidate should ideally hold a valid driving licence

Gardens and Grounds

  • Maintaining the gardens and grounds, including general gardening tasks

  • Ensuring all outdoor areas are kept tidy, presentable and well maintained throughout the year

Pets

  • Daily care of the family’s pets, including one cat and one dog

  • Feeding, exercising and ensuring their general wellbeing

General

  • Flexibility to adapt to the family’s routine and occasional changes to the schedule

  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues before they arise

  • Working with discretion, care and a calm, professional manner

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a live-in domestic couple

  • Strong housekeeping and practical maintenance skills

  • Good gardening experience

  • Confident, caring and experienced with pets

  • Trustworthy, discreet and reliable

  • Able to work independently and use initiative

  • Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on work

  • Legal right to work in the UK

Working Days and Hours

Ideally 9am to 6pm, Wednesday to Sunday. The family would also consider Tuesday to Saturday, provided the couple are flexible and able to work weekends when the family are in residence. Weekend stays are infrequent.

Salary: £60,000 to £70,000 GPA depending on experience 

Accommodation: Separate private house on the estate, including a bedroom, kitchen, living area and bathroom
