Live-in Domestic / Estate Couple Job in West Dorset
A private household on a beautiful West Dorset estate, situated between Dorchester and Sherborne and within easy reach of the Jurassic coastline, are seeking a trustworthy, experienced and enthusiastic live-in domestic / estate couple to support the smooth running, care and presentation of the property.
This is a hands-on, long-term position, well-suited to a capable, practical and proactive couple who take pride in keeping a private home, gardens and estate running smoothly. The roles will suit a couple with strong experience across cooking, housekeeping, laundry, household errands, grounds maintenance, gardening, practical outdoor support and general estate care.
The successful couple will support the family and guests, help prepare the house for visits, assist with cooking and housekeeping, and provide practical support across the grounds and wider estate. Flexibility, discretion, a positive attitude and the ability to work well both independently and as part of an existing team are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
Household and Family Support
• Cooking for the family and guests when they are in resident
• Preparing the house for family visits and guests
• General housekeeping, domestic cleaning and laundry
• Cleaning the main house and ancillary accommodation
• Shopping for household items as required
• Managing household recycling
• Administration of petty cash, purchases and collection of goods on behalf of the employer
• Guest support and occasional help with entertaining
• Helping ensure the property is appropriately locked and alarmed when the client is not in residence
• Undertaking other duties as required within the general scope of the role
Gardens, Grounds and Estate
• Assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of the gardens and grounds
• Gardening, lawn cutting and hedge trimming
• Supporting the existing team with grounds maintenance and horticultural tasks
• General outdoor tidiness and practical estate support
• General DIY and estate maintenance tasks across the property
• Safe use of tools, machinery and equipment
• Supporting wider estate operations as required
Driving and Security
• Both candidates must hold valid driving licenses
• Local errands, collections and household-related driving as required
• Being on hand to assist the employer and existing workforce with general duties
• Providing security cover when the employer is not in residence
Candidate Requirements
• Proven experience working as a live-in domestic / estate couple or within a similar private household
• Trustworthy, experienced, enthusiastic and discreet
• Conscientious, friendly, articulate and self-motivated
• Willingness to go the extra mile to achieve a high standard of work
• Strong cooking, housekeeping, laundry and household support skills
• Strong grounds maintenance, gardening, practical outdoor and estate care skills
• Organised and methodical, with a flexible approach to work
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to use initiative
• Comfortable working as part of a team and independently
• Familiar with the safe use of equipment
• Good understanding of Health and Safety legislation, including the preparation of risk assessments
• Prepared to undertake general DIY and estate maintenance tasks
• Both candidates must hold valid driving licences
Working Days
Flexible working days will be required, with weekend work needed at times, particularly when house guests are visiting.
Working Hours
Working hours for both positions are flexible and based on 37.5 hours per week, although the couple will be expected to work sufficient hours to fulfil the roles.
Start: As soon as possible
Salary: Competitive salary package depending on experience, with the client prepared to pay appropriate market rates for each role
Holiday: 20 days per annum plus bank holidays
Accommodation: Attractive three-bedroom cottage located in the village. The accommodation includes a kitchen, sitting room, three bedrooms and a family bathroom. Outside, there is a pretty garden with a garage. Council Tax will be covered by the employer, with employees responsible for all other services, including oil and electricity.
