Private Estate Couple, Nr. Edinburgh, Scotland
Greycoat Lumley’s client are offering a rare opportunity for an experienced Couple to join a prestigious private estate and take responsibility for the smooth running, security and presentation of a substantial country house and its grounds. This locations offers being close to Edinburgh but in a rural setting. Edinburgh is an extremely desirable location to live and work and has a vast amount to offer for everyone.
The Principal is primarily in residence during the summer and over Christmas, with small groups of family and friends visiting. The couple will ensure the house and its gardens are maintained to an exceptional standard and fully prepared for the Principal's arrival.
The Couple will work closely together and alongside the estate manager and other associated staff, taking a proactive approach to the running of the household.
Duties will include:
Housekeeping, laundry, ironing and maintaining the property to a high standard
Ensuring the household is appropriately stocked with groceries
For part of the time, the Principal will be hosting guests and will need additional support from the Couple at these times with cooking relaxed, family-style meals (a private chef can be hired for more formal dinners), lighting fires and generally creating a welcoming atmosphere
Driving the Principal and guests into the city and airport transfers
Overseeing the maintenance of the house, grounds and estate, identifying issues and arranging contractors where required
Dealing with weather-related issues, including fallen trees and general estate maintenance
Receiving deliveries and overseeing tradespeople and contractors
Managing and monitoring household IT, Wi-Fi, alarm and security systems
Maintaining the security of the property, grounds and everyone within the estate
Ensuring the property remains secure, well maintained and fully operational when the Principal is away
Acting as a ambassadors for the Principal on the estate in his absence and directing enquiries as necessary to the other team members as appropriate working on the estate
The successful couple will be warm, welcoming, highly organised and self-motivated, with excellent communication skills and a genuine can-do attitude.
They will be confident working independently, using their own initiative and taking ownership of what needs to be done without constant direction. Practical, resourceful and discreet, they will have a good eye for detail and take pride in maintaining a beautiful property and its grounds.
Both to have full UK driving licences
Salary: £70,000 to £80,000
Accommodation: Separate cottage within the grounds, minimum two-bedroom, provided free of charge (there are larger properties)
Permanent, long-term position (ideally 5 years minimum commitment)
