Girls’ School


This is a leading independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18 years’ old. The school is situated in Berkshire but is approximately 40 minutes’ drive from London.


They are looking for a friendly Matron to join the boarding team for a Junior Boarding House. This is a term time position and non-residential.


Duties and responsibilities


  • To provide a safe, nurturing environment which allows students to flourish

  • Create a happy, respectful and caring atmosphere in the House

  • To maintain open communication with other boarding staff

  • To ensure pupils are smart in their appearance

  • To liaise with parents where appropriate (this may be by email or phone call)

  • To input information in to the school’s database.

  • It is desirable that Matrons attend, as required, school events such as Speech Day and Open mornings, as well as house social events, such as the House trips

  • To ensure that all drugs kept in the house medical cabinet are in date and accounted fortnightly

  • To liaise effectively with the school Health Centre with regards all medical and health related issues

  • Monitor and take care of girls sick in House during the school day

  • The matron may be required to take a girl to a medical appointment

  • To replenish cleaning material and equipment stock

  • Monitor house access for schools visitors including contractors to the site and ensure that the house signing in and out books are maintained effectively


Ideal candidate: someone trustworthy, flexible, resilient, caring and cheerful. Have great communication skills and an ability to use a computer with confidence. They are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working as part of a team and cares about the welfare of children. They are looking for someone who lives in an easy commute to the school. First Aid training will be provided, if necessary.


Hours of Work: The hours required are 8am to 4pm on Thursday and Friday but there may be some flexibility. This is term time only and non-residential.


Salary: a competitive salary will be offered in accordance with experience and qualifications. This salary will be reviewed annually.
