Estate Handyperson job in the Highlands of Scotland

Greycoat Lumley’s client are seeking a Handyperson to travel between their estates in the North of England and Scotland – the role is mainly based near Inverness.

As well as the main estate houses each estate comprise of various residential properties, holiday lets, garden areas and shooting ground. The estates are all centred around shooting, fishing and agriculture. One also operates a nearby hotel and restaurant.

We are looking for an individual who will be predominately based just outside of Inverness, where a cottage will be provided.

Despite the position being based in Scotland, the successful candidate will be expected to travel in-between and around the other estates where accommodation will also be provided to help carry out the necessary upkeep and maintenance on each estate, of which a vehicle will be provided.


Job Description

  • General maintenance which should include painting and decorating, a basic understanding of plumbing, carpentry skills, fencing and a good practical understanding of property upkeep.

  • Assisting with airport runs, driving and chauffeuring for the owners.

  • Helping the Gardeners and Gamekeepers as needed during busier periods.

  • At times, it may be that the candidate is asked to care for the owner’s dogs in their absence so must be dog friendly.

The successful candidate will possess the following skills:-

  • Be able to show that you are competent in painting and decorating, carpentry, plumbing and other general estate maintenance skills.

  • Excellent timekeeping, flexibility and attention to detail.

  • Must work well as part of a team and independently.

  • Communicate clearly and competently with the Owners, Estate Manager and other Estate staff.

  • Must be able to use your own initiative and carry out tasks unsupervised.

  • To take pride in your work whilst able to remain neat and tidy doing so.

  • Discretion is required at all times and a respectful attitude towards principals and property is necessary.

  • A clean driving license required.


Accommodation: 2 bedroom cottage, council tax is paid by the estate utility bills covered by the candidate
