Gardener job Nr Kirby Lonsdale Lancashire South Lakes Borders

(47861) An old client of Greycoat Lumleys North of England office is looking for an experienced Gardener to take on an exciting role from their current gardener who is retiring. The current gardener is leaving in September and the family are looking for someone to take on this role sometime in the summer to allow a period of cross over. You will be working closely with the owners of the property to help them envisage their long-term plan for the garden. The family also employ a couple (placed by Greycoat Lumleys) so you need to be very happy to work as part of a small team.

The main garden itself comprises of 10 acres although the estate itself totals 220 acres inc fields and woodland. This role requires someone with experience and excellent plant knowledge. The garden itself was fully re-landscaped within the last 4 years. While some areas are now established, there is a full daily and seasonal plan in place for the continued development of the garden. It is hoped that whoever takes on this role can be involved in designing new areas of the garden as well as the continued evolution of the garden area.

There is a productive walled garden, vegetable garden with fruit caged so you need to have knowledge and an interest in kitchen gardens. You will be responsible for the hands on general maintenance gardening and all seasonal jobs including woodlands work, lawn mowing, log chopping for example. As well as general borders there is also a cutting border. All garden equipment and machinery is provided and will be the responsibility of the gardener to keep tidy and well maintained.

The estate has animals including sheep and chickens so you need to be happy to help with the animal care, working along side the resident couple and owners.

One of the most important things in this garden is for it to be kept to a high standard at all times of the year and for someone to take pride in their work. You also need to be flexible and adaptable and on occasions muck in with other jobs on the estate. This is a long term role.

This role can either be a full-time 5 day week or a 4 day week will also be considered depending on the candidate.

Live out role – accommodation is not provided.

£neg depending on experience

Start summer 2018 – flexible depending on the candidate
