One of London's leading catering and events companies has a job for a Head Chef. The catering company is one of the most popular in London, and can cater for small events up to large ones for numbers in the thousands. They do anything from canapés and bowl food, to sit down dinners and banquets with a few courses, or full on tasting menus. The style of food is modern British fine dining, but with influences of international cuisine, and of course seasonality plays a large part in the menus. This is a very exciting opportunity to be involved at the highest level of London's food scene.
The Head Chef would be working closely with the Exc Head Chef. They would work in tandem in leading the team and managing events. The Sous Chef would be based in the kitchen for 70% of the time, and 30% of the time would be spent in the office. They would be doing the ordering, stock keeping and helping with the rotas. Menu planning would be done alongside the Exc Head Chef and the Director of the company. The Sous Chef would be expected to work at events and be able to lead teams of Chefs on and off site, and deputise for the Head Chef as required.
It is essential that the Head Chef has had experience working in events, as they need to understand how events work and operate. They should have experience in leading a large team of Chefs, mainly agency, and know how to delegate and manage a team. Organisation and motivation will be very important characteristics for this role, particularly to manage the administration side. Creativity is also essential, and the ability to come up with new ideas for menus. the head Chef will have good presentation skills, a good palate and experience in suing modern techniques. Foreign travel or experience in cooking international cuisines is desirable as this will give a new edge to the menus.
The role is to start ASAP. Currently, going into the busy season, they would like the candidate to start as soon as possible, but they are happy to get a temporary candidate in the meantime, as they would prefer to find the right Head Chef.
Start: Feb/Mar 2017
Salary: £40,000 plus overtime. Overtime is paid on hours worked over 173 hours in a month.
Hours: Monday to Friday 08.00-16.00, but will be expected to work evenings and weekends when required
