(46430) Greycoat Lumleys are looking for an experienced Head Gardener to work on a private estate in North Yorkshire. The client is looking for a highly motivated individual with a love of horticulture, who is meticulous, loyal, hardworking, with high attention to detail and excellent workmanship.
The garden comprises of approximately 5 acres, which overlooks another 60 acres of fields and woods. The garden is situated on a south facing hillside and includes formal terraces as well as open lawn areas.
As Head Gardener, it is expected that the candidate would be a qualified horticulturist with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working on private estates in particular. You would need to be able to demonstrate excellent plant knowledge, good landscaping skills and a creative flair, the ability to plan ahead, as well as exceptional people management skills. A driving licence is essential.
The successful candidate will have direct responsibility for the day to day maintenance of the gardens. They will have excellent practical skills with the ability to propagate plants from seeds and cuttings. They will be expected to work closely with the owners on the long term development of the garden and advise on various projects. They will be expected to plan, carry out and monitor plant and tree care programs including design, landscaping, propagation, planting, irrigation, weeding, grass cutting, trimming and maintenance of pathways, car park areas, machinery and facilities. They will be expected to manage all garden project activities to ensure they are carried out on schedule and within allocated budgets, employing the assistance of external labour where necessary.
Live in accommodation is available in the form of a separate cottage – rent paid but candidate to pay own utilities – family and pets welcome
