HOUSE MANAGER/BUTLER

Berkshire - Live in or Live Out – Accommodation is single person only

 

UK-based couple require experienced professional Butler/House Manager. You will be working directly for the Principals overseeing all aspects of running and maintaining their main UK residence in Berkshire and possibly a secondary residence in the south of France.

You will need to have initiative, be highly organised, efficient and confident in all aspects of managing the operations of a reasonably sized residence run to a very high (5 star hotel) standard.

You will need to take full responsibility for the management and operation of the principal’s properties dealing with all the day-to-day aspects of running the property and dealing with both internal staff and external subcontractors.

You will carry out the normal role associated with a personal Butler or Household Manager. You will be responsible for the management and organisation of the Principals lifestyle planning (Vacations, parties etc.) and be working in close association with the Principals business PA.

You will be overseeing 3 to 5 full-time and part-time staff at the UK residence and up to 5 full-time and part-time staff (during the summer) at the Principals French residence. You will be responsible for recruiting and managing a high-calibre of staff to work within the owner’s residences and overseeing all aspects of contracting and overseeing the household personnel and applying the relevant staff procedures and protocols. You will be expected to carry out provisioning and other shopping tasks and errands for the principals.

The owners travel frequently and need to have full confidence the home will be secure and well-run in their absence. When the owners are travelling you will have responsibility for overseeing care, between yourself and the resident staff, for the house pets.

 

Requirements

  • Excellent organisational and managerial skills

  • Precise with great attention to detail

  • Proactive and able to take initiative

  • Pet Knowledgeable & pet friendly with experience in pet care

  • A full driving licence

  • Computer literate and accomplished in Word documents being able to prepare reports and documents to high standard and also detailed Excel sheets for accounting purposes.

  • Courteous and polite - understand professional but discreet service requirements and “front of house” image

  • Smartly dressed and neatly turned out at all times

Responsibilities 

 

  • Overseeing the running of the house to a 5 star hotel standard

  • Writing and maintaining a house operations book listing all details of the day-to-day requirements and operating procedures of the property.

  • The management of all staff employed at the property

  • Overall supervision of all HR matters, including payroll, contracts, and any disciplinary issues

  • Supervision of the housekeeping team in maintaining and caring for the property and furnishings and wardrobe items therein

  • Liaising with suppliers and contractors

  • Carrying out provisioning, general shopping and other errands (including online shopping).

  • Preparing and serving snacks and drinks throughout the day when required.

  • Overseeing and helping to care for the house pets (currently one dog and one cat) to include an element of house and pet sitting when the couple are away.

  • Understanding and operating household systems including TV, WiFi, Security etc. and ensuring the maintenance of same by outside contractors.

  • Overseeing gardeners and ensuring that all repairs/maintenance jobs both inside and out are taken care of.

  • Acting as a personal assistant and lifestyle planner for the Principals dealing with arranging holidays and social events when required.

  • Greeting and receiving guests 

  • Keeping accurate and detailed computerised records of any property related expenses

  • The overseeing of all security procedures for the property
