Live In Couple Job Scottish Borders
Greycoat Lumley’s client are looking for a couple who have the skills, experience and enthusiasm to manage their newly acquired sporting estate set in a stunning rural location within the Scottish Borders. The estate currently has a 5-bedroom estate house set in 450 hectares of forest and stunning open grounds. The management couple will have free use of the 5-bedroom house until such time as the property has been expanded to create separate living accommodation for the management team.
Residential guests are not expected until spring/summer. 2019 and in the first two to three years, the estate will mainly be run as a sporting lodge for grouse shooting, deer stalking and fishing – there is also quad bikes and mountain trails within the estate.
There are plans, over the next few years, to further extend the accommodation by adding eco lodges in the grounds for larger parties to visit. There are also plans to further increase the number of activities available.
The clients are looking for the couple to take ownership of the smooth running of the estate, manage the extension build, look after the guests, and embrace their family ethos and values. Timely and clear communication between the couple and the owners is paramount as there is a lot of trust and responsibility.
The couple will be responsible for:
Housekeeping – cleaning, laundry, ironing
Cooking – standard shoot party food i.e. breakfast, packed lunch with soup and dinner, 3 courses including a simple casserole/one pot dish
Ensuring drinks are fully stocked and available for guests (spirits and wine)
Ensuring the lodge is fully stocked with household supplies for the guests
Maintenance of the property – monitoring tradesmen if required for specialist jobs
Build a strong relationship with neighboring land/property and local tradesmen
Gardening – mainly mowing as no formal gardens – some cutting back of hedges
Welcoming guests and ensuring they enjoy their visit
Marketing through the website, working with letting agent
Taking bookings and dealing with paperwork
Ensuring paperwork for the estate is passed on to the correct person or dealt with
Security of the lodge and surrounding area
This role is an exceptional opportunity for a couple with experience of working within a shooting lodge environment.
There will also be a number of other duties not listed as the role will evolve over time. The owners have exciting plans for the estate to progress and the couple will be joining at an exciting time to get everything up to the right standard before guests start arriving and to be there for future development.
There will also be a Head Forrester and Gamekeeper working on the estate. There is plenty of machinery to help with duties.
Start: October/November 2018
Salary: £40,000 to £50,000 gross joint annual salary
Accommodation: Provided within the lodge at present with a new separate wing with full accommodation with separate entrance to be built for the couple.
As the property will not be rented out for a few months the couple will have the whole lodge to themselves.
Location is not suitable for a family as schools are difficult to access
Wi-Fi provided and mobile phones provided
Dogs welcome within reason.
Hours and Days: Will need to be flexible around when there are guests expected.
To include weekends but not all the time.
There will be periods of time when there are no guests so the hours will be give and take.
