Live in Housekeeper / Cook required on a part time basis (total of 25 hours per week ) in Oxfordshire, starting late spring 2019. Salary £20,500 Gross Per annum

(51682) An excellent, traditional style housekeeper / cook is required on a shooting Estate in  Oxfordshire to look after a beautiful Grade II listed, 6 bedroom family home located within ten acres of formal and kitchen gardens.


The family visit the home in general for approximately ten weeks per year, usually over holidays, the Shoot Season and weekends. The family host events, functions, business meetings and shooting parties so you must be confident front of house, able to meet and greet as needed. We are looking for a confident country cook who enjoys cooking and is able to use the produce of the kitchen garden and the Shoot ( part of the role will involve preparing game)  to create homemade meals for the family and guests.

The role will be quite quiet when they are not in residence and busy when they are. You will need to be flexible when the family are in residence. On average over the year you will be required for a total of 25 hours per week.

Other staff are employed. You must be proactive, good with time management and enjoy working as part of a team.


Duties to include

  • Hands on Housekeeping, including the washing, ironing, cleaning, polishing 

  • Cleaning the Estate office every two weeks.

  • Flower arranging and laying fires.

  • Household shopping

  • Assisting when the family entertain

  • Cooking for the family and their guests when they are in residence when ever needed, and preparation of preserves, soups, stews etc either fresh or for the freezer. This will include breakfast, elevenses, lunch, tea and drinks, and occasionally dinner; soup and afternoon tea for the family shoot.

  • Assisting with catering when there are functions at the house.

  • Occasional help with child-minding and babysitting.

  • Liaise with contractors and other members of staff to ensure the estate runs smoothly.

  • Keeping the maintenance schedule up to date in conjunction with the Estate Manager

  • Running errands when needed. 


A single person would be preferred but partners and pets will be considered

Driving is essential


Accommodation    Self Contained 1 bed flat with separate entrance

Hours   25 hours a week, must be flexible with days worked
