Live-in or Live-out Housekeeper Job in Berkshire
A warm, down-to-earth family are seeking an experienced Housekeeper to oversee the smooth running of their beautiful Berkshire residence.
The household is typically occupied by the principals during holiday periods throughout the year, with their three grown-up children visiting occasionally. The property is a traditional two-storey home with six bedrooms and contains a number of antiques and fine furnishings, requiring careful attention and high standards of housekeeping.
The family currently employ a friendly and established Groundsman who assists with the upkeep of the estate. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and trustworthy candidate looking for a long-term position within a welcoming household.
The role will involve hands-on housekeeping, household coordination, property management and ensuring the home is always prepared for the family's arrival. For candidates who enjoy cooking, there is also the opportunity to do family cooking.
Duties will include:
Cleaning and maintaining the property to an exceptionally high standard
Caring for antiques, fine furnishings, silver and delicate fabrics
Quarterly deep cleaning when the family are not in residence
Making and changing beds
Laundry care, ironing and wardrobe management
Managing dry cleaning and seamstress requirements
Flower arranging and ensuring the home is beautifully presented
Preparing the property ahead of family arrivals
Household organisation and stock management
Conducting regular property checks and ensuring the house remains secure when unoccupied
Liaising with the Family EA regarding maintenance, repairs and household projects
Coordinating contractors and service providers
Monitoring servicing schedules for the property
Running local errands and shopping
Arranging taxis and transport
Collecting family members from the train station and occasional airport runs
Providing light lunch service and clearing away when the family are in residence
Optional family cooking for candidates who enjoy cooking
Candidate Requirements:
Previous private household experience is essential
Fluent English, both written and spoken
Basic computer skills
Full UK driving licence essential
Happy working independently for periods when the family are away
Accommodation:
A separate three-bedroom property is provided for the live-in candidate with a contribution of £100 per month towards utilities. The family may consider partners and pets for the right candidate.
Working Hours:
Full-time or part-time candidates will be considered.
Monday to Friday, typically 9:00am – 3:00pm, with flexibility required when the family are in residence, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Salary: £40,000 gross per annum DOE
