Live-in Travelling Housekeeping Assistant – UK & France

Greycoat Lumleys are seeking an experienced, trustworthy, and warm-natured Live-in Travelling Housekeeping Assistant to work directly with a private principal and her much-loved Wire-Haired Dachshund. The principal divides her time between France and the UK on a seasonal basis throughout 2026, before settling into a longer-term UK residence from 2027 onward. The role requires a calm, adaptable, and highly reliable individual who takes genuine pride in maintaining an immaculate household and brings quiet resourcefulness and discretion to the role. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a peaceful, well-ordered environment, be confident working both independently and alongside another housekeeper when required, and be comfortable with a travelling role. The client has staffed properties in France and South America.

Duties to include:

  • Maintaining a 4–5 bedroom, 4-bathroom property to an exceptional standard of cleanliness and presentation
  • Full laundry and ironing duties, including care of delicate fabrics and high-end clothing
  • Ensuring all household linens and wardrobes are impeccably maintained and organised
  • Confidently preparing simple, healthy meals and assisting the principal in the kitchen when required
  • Packing and unpacking the principal’s belongings for travel between residences
  • Running errands and assisting with household shopping, independently or alongside the principal
  • Receiving and liaising with tradespeople and contractors when required
  • Maintaining household security awareness and reporting any issues promptly to the principal
  • Occasionally accompanying the principal on countryside walks with her dog
  • Feeding and general care of the dog when required
  • Driving is essential
  • UK Right to work is required

The successful candidate must have previous private household live-in experience and demonstrate a strong ability to adapt to different homes, environments, and routines. Experience working within travelling or multi-residence households would be highly advantageous. You must be comfortable with occasional travel within the UK and abroad, beyond the France–UK rotation outlined. The ideal candidate will be warm, open, and easy-going, with a naturally positive outlook. You will be a clear and discreet communicator, highly respectful of privacy, and confident working independently when required. A genuine love of animals, nature, and country living is essential, along with a strong sense of pride in maintaining a well-run home.

Working Hours 
Hours: 40 hours per week, typically 8–10 hours per day with a minimum one-hour daily break
Days off: 2 days per week
Flexibility: Some flexibility will be required (e.g. packing, travel days, or adjusted hours). Any additional hours will be compensated with equivalent time off

Accommodation:
Fully provided at all locations. This includes a private bedroom and bathroom when travelling with the principal in the UK or France, and private accommodation at the permanent UK residence. No pets or partners.

Travel Pattern:
2026 (approx.):

  • Summer: United Kingdom (approx. 2.5 months)

  • Autumn: Southern France (Languedoc region) (approx. 2.5 months)

  • Late 2026: United Kingdom (housekeeper returns ahead of principal to prepare the home)

From 2027 onward:

  • Long-term base in the United Kingdom

  • Occasional travel within the UK or abroad (beyond France)
