Job Description

Gap Year positon in Somerset

The post holder is part of the residential team responsible for the welfare and pastoral care of male and female boarders resident in the house.

 

Duties

  • Be conversant with the National Minimum Boarding Standard and be aware of the post holder’s responsibility towards these

  • Provide high quality pastoral support for those in their care and ensure appropriate care is provided to meet the needs of the individual

  • Help to organise the basic routine of the house with assistance from other staff and prefects

  • Actively support the social development of the boarders resident in the house

  • Help to co-ordinate and implement boarders’ activities with other staff, including sport and trips

  • Supervise tea on duty days

  • Undertake wake-up and bedtime routines of the boarders resident in the house on duty days

  • Supervise the distribution of supper on duty days

  • Supervise in-house After School Learning (ASL)

  • On duty days distribute pocket money keeping accurate records of income and expenditure

  • Drive the minibus for house trips and activities

 

Working Hours

During term-time to be on duty three evenings (from 3.40 to 11.00 pm) and one full day each weekend (8.00 am to 11.00 pm), other than exeats. The evening duty will include being on-call overnight and undertaking wake-up duties that morning (from 7.00 to 8.00 am).

Salary in the region of £8,165 to £9,847 per annum (dependent upon experience and pupil numbers in the house).

 

Accommodation

Is provided rent-free throughout the year with free meals available in the school dining room during term time except exeats. The provision of water, heat and light is subject to a personal liability for Benefits in Kind taxation.
