Resident House Parent, East Grinstead

We are looking for a professional, organised and warm individual to join our boarding team. The team is made up of Girls’ and Boys’ Houseparents’’, Head Matron, School Sister, 5 Gap Students and members of the teaching staff. The school provides exceptional pastoral care to 100 boarders who are aged from 9 to 13 years old.

The school is very much a family environment and this role would suit someone who is looking for or who has previous experience in a boarding school or who has experience as a family Nanny.

The successful individual will focus primarily on offering the best pastoral support to the children; helping and organising them in the dorms, overseeing their bedtime routine, reading to and playing with them and offering reassurance and guidance when required. They will also be required to offer some administrative support, attend boarding meetings, organise phone and Skype calls home and perform some housekeeping duties.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 To be an understanding and sympathetic presence in the boarding environment and to be sensitive to those who are experiencing difficulties with school life; to liaise with the Headmaster and other appropriate staff regarding welfare of the pupils.

 Dormitories: Waking the children up and supervising before breakfast, help them to organise and keep dormitories tidy, evening dormitory duties and supervision of bedtime routines, changing linen with the children once a week.

 Mealtimes: To assist with supervision of mealtimes.

 Supervision of changing rooms

 To organise and assist children’s contact with home.

 To be on call overnight when on duty.

 Organisation of Birthday teas.

 To liaise with parents and guardians to organise children’s travel arrangements.

 To take children to medical and dental appointments.

 To contribute to the Sunday activities programme.

 Oversee the exeat pick up and return for boarders.

 To provide cover in the School Surgery when required.

 To keep first aid training up to date.

 Any other duty as required by the Headmaster’s Wife, commensurate with the post.

Working hours

 It is a 6 day week with one day off every week. There are 3 to 4 exeats every term (Friday to Sunday) and between a week and 10 days for half term.

 Hours of work will vary but will be between 7.00am and 10.00pm with a three hour break during the day.

 There will be time in the day to help in the classrooms, the sports field or extra activities.

 It may also suit someone wishes to study part-time for a degree.

 Staff have access to school grounds and facilities during much of the school holidays.

 

 

There is scope for flexibility within the role for the successful applicant to pursue their areas of interest within the school.

Salary – £17,000 to £19,000 per annum
