Resident House Parent Job in Cambridge

This is a very unique position to work at a Resident House Parent for an academic organisation in Cambridge. The House Parent will be responsible for the health and safety of international students studying in the UK.


Main duties and responsibilities


  • Ensure that student rooms are set, ready for new students to move in

  • Support in the induction of new students to the accommodation

  • Encourage students to use the English Language at all times

  • Promote a homely environment and by interacting with all students, find out their wellbeing and any concerns they may have

  • To discuss enrichment activities and plan a programme with the students

  • Investigate the extent of any student illness and inform the College

  • Monitor reasonable standard of cleanliness and tidiness are being maintained in students study/bedrooms and communal living areas

  • To reply promptly to communication – phone call, text and emails from Parents/Guardians

  • Inform maintenance of any concerns or damages

  • Supervise the breakfast and evening meals

  • Supervise the laundry arrangements and use of the washing machine and external collections/deliveries



Ideal candidate: will be confidential and sensitive to the needs of the students. You must be flexible and be prepared to come to the aid of the students (which includes unsociable hours). You must be willing to do further training and development. Someone who has residential experience with senior students would be ideal.


Accommodation: one bedroom flat onsite will be provided throughout employment.


Holidays: 4 weeks holiday (to be taken avoiding term time and with agreement of Accommodation Manager) an additional 2 weeks of holiday are given during the Christmas period.


Salary: in the region of £18,000
