Sole Gardener job North Shropshire – start asap – accommodation provided - £neg

(47240) Our client is looking for an experienced Gardener to be based in North Shropshire on a privately owned estate. The estate includes a working arable farm with a partridge and pheasant shoot. The family travel extensively and divide their time between their other homes in North and West Scotland. Pets include five dogs and a cat.

 

The garden grounds include formal lawns, large herbaceous borders, a rose garden, productive walled kitchen garden, a reflective pool, a small woodland garden and orchard as well as a tennis court.

 

Outline of Key Responsibilities

 

  • To maintain gardens and grounds to a high standard throughout the year

  • Produce vegetables, fruit and cut flowers for the household

  • Propagate plants for border planting and pot displays

  • Maintain water features

  • To carry out any other reasonable duties and small odd jobs as specified by the Principals

  • To coordinate and supervise any contractors whilst working in the property grounds

  • Prepare, stock and set fires in the family home and shoot lodge

  • Support estate activities

 

The successful candidate will possess the following skills:

 

  • Possess a good plant knowledge and high horticultural skills

  • Excellent timekeeping, flexibility and attention to detail

  • Must work well as part of a team and be able to liaise well with other estate staff and others on the estate

  • Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative

  • Excellent levels of health and fitness and a positive disposition

  • Take pride in their work

  • Discretion at all times and a respectful attitude towards the Principals and their property

  • Clean driving licence

  • Candidates should also be experienced in using and maintaining a range of garden machinery.

 

The Terms of Employment:

 

  • Hours: Monday > Friday 8am – 5pm

(Due to the nature of the role and weather dependency flexibility will be required over the above hours, there will be evening & weekend work including harvesting of fruit & vegetables when ready and summer watering during dry spells.)

 

 

  • This is a Live in Role Unfurnished 2 bedroom semi-detached cottage available with own small garden and driveway available; Council Tax included, remainder of utilities unpaid.

 

  • Offer is subject to satisfactory references

 

  • Salary competitive and based on experience
