Daily Assistant Matron Job in Hertfordshire, ASAP

This is a small all boys’ day and boarding school set in attractive parkland. The successful candidate will join a team headed by the Housemaster, Head Matron, another Assistant Matron and a School Nurse.

The boarding House at this school prides itself on its friendly, relaxed atmosphere, in which boys mix easily and happily together. High standards are expected, however at the same time, they are mindful of the fact the House is also the boys’ home.

Main duties and responsibilities include

  • To present a positive, confident and professional image to parents and boys and support other staff in the promotion of good manners, kindness and consideration

  • To communicate with parents regarding the health and wellbeing of a boy in your care, in conjunction with the Housemaster and Head Matron

  • To run boarders’ activities when required to do so; this includes reading to the junior boys in the dormitories and helping boys with homework support

  • To support the boys by attending school functions/trips where possible

  • To assist at meal times to ensure sensible eating and social behaviour

  • To attend any courses or conferences as required to assist you to carry out your duties or to enhance your skills and knowledge

  • To attend to the medical requirements of the boys and administer non-prescriptive medication

  • To liaise closely with Housemaster and Head Matron if you have any particular concerns about a child

The ideal candidate: will have a sense of vocation and commitment. A caring and sympathetic personality. Excellent communication skills. The ability to work as part of a team. The ability to deal with emergencies calmly. Have a great sense of humour and an ability to empathise with young people.

Hours of Work: a maximum 10 hours per day will be worked between the hours of 7:00am to 9:30pm. However, flexible is required for unforeseen circumstances. If residential, you will be required to participate in an overnight “on call” rota 2 nights per week. Compensatory rest will be given for any overnight hours worked. Local live-out candidates do not have to do the overnights.

Accommodation: A candidate that lives within a daily commute of the school would be ideal although they can also consider residential applicants and can provide a 1 bedroom bedsit.

Salary: £16,000 to £20,000 pro rata depending on qualifications and experience.
