Family chef required to work between London and Devon (with occasional work in Courchevel)
Start Date: January 2021
Location: primarily Holland Park, London, with time at the family’s homes in Devon and Courchevel
Working Days: 5 days per week, often including weekends
Working hours: TBC, but may be irregular
Salary: £40k - £60k negotiable depending on expertise and experience.
Accommodation: Live out in London. Accommodation (en-suite bedroom) provided in Devon and Courchevel.
A busy family (parents and 4 teenage/adult children) require a chef to join their staff team. This role would suit a chef with a strong interest in nutrition and healthy eating (including calorie counting to control total intake), as the main requirement is to produce healthy meals for the family, who have various dietary requirements. The chef will therefore work closely with the family’s fitness consultant, to help family members achieve their health objectives. The family entertain frequently and so there will also be opportunities (particularly in Devon and France) to cook for lunch/dinner parties and other social events. The chef may also be asked to produce meals for the rest of the staff team.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a private family home, and an understanding of the dynamics of working in a staffed household. S/he will be flexible and adaptable, able to cope with changes of plan, and with a good sense of humour.
In London the chef will work in the family kitchen (which the family use rarely). In Devon s/he will be involved in designing and equipping a new chef’s kitchen, and may also use the family kitchen (knowledge of Aga cooking useful).
The family have historically been based in London during term time and Devon (or Courchevel) during school holidays, although as the children get older this pattern is becoming less “set”. Since March they have been based almost exclusively in Devon, but they plan on returning to London and a more usual routine during 2021. However, the candidate will need to be flexible as regards location for the first few months of the role, as there may be more time in Devon than would usually be the case.
