Couples Job Derbyshire – Housekeeper / Cook & Handyman / Gardener
(86618) Our client is looking for an experienced Couple to take on a hands-on and practical role looking after a property in rural Derbyshire.
The main property is an 8-bed home which has been built in the last 2 years to a very high standard with all modern technology and services.
The home is set on a mixed sporting estate near Ashbourne and will be used by several members of the same family as an occasional holiday home and more so by the family and guests during the shooting season.
The role requires a couple who can run the house to a high standard although the family are relatively informal in nature. The couple need to be familiar with modern property technology or be happy and confident to learn and deal with the appropriate contractors. The property and adjoining 2-bed cottage are not used as a main residence but should always be kept ready for use.
As different members of the family will use it at different times, the couple will need to keep a record of who likes what and how to ensure that when they arrive, everything is ready for them.
The Housekeeper will do all the hands-on cleaning, laundry and ironing. There are 2 linen rooms and a well-equipped laundry although some laundry may be sent out. The house needs to be kept to a high standard, taking advantage of the time when it is not in use to ensure that the house is kept clean and then keeping it ticking over when the family are in residence (mainly weekends during the shoot season and other weekdays / weekends at other times of the year). Cooking is an important part of the role. A minimum requirement will be to cook for family parties of 6-8 people to a good standard as well as some shoot lunch catering for the guns and beaters. If the candidate is capable then they may take on more cooking duties for larger numbers although a catering company can be used. Some members of the family might prefer to have meals left for them to finish themselves and other may just want shopping to be brought in for them.
The main handyman role will be to look after the properties used by the family. These consist of the main house, the adjacent 2-bed cottage, the outbuildings within the main house’s curtilage, two fishing huts and the shoot room. A Gardener is already employed so this won’t be a large part of the couple’s role, but you would need to help with grass cutting, generally keeping outside areas clean and tidy and some seasonal general estate jobs. The role includes small odd jobs to be done around the estate’s nine other tenanted properties. There is a high level of technology in the main house so you will need to be familiar with everything and ensure that everything is in working order. You will need to maintain a daily, weekly and monthly plan to ensure all elements of maintenance are covered and be responsible for reporting any problems to the family office. You will be onsite to deal with any contractors and deal with the property security.
The roles will encompass all elements of keeping stock for the house and shoot room, and the couple will need to put together a household inventory and be aware if anything in the home needs to be cared for in a specific way although instructions will be provided. Some front of house service will also be needed although this will be occasional, maybe serving a family meal, meeting and greeting guests, taking bags, etc. While not being a formal role it does require a couple who are professional and discreet and can make sure that the family have everything that they need.
The Estate directly employs three other full-time people in addition to the Gardener, and the couple will be expected to operate alongside the wider Estate team to ensure that the family and guests get maximum benefit from it.
Working hours will be full-time with a mix of weekends and weekdays – more weekends in the shooting season.
Drivers essential and a car is provided. Accommodation is a separate 2-bed thatched cottage away from the main house but not secluded. This will be rent free with other bills negotiable for the right couple – currently unfurnished but could be furnished / part-furnished if needed. Pets considered.
