An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced, self-motivated, enthusiastic, committed sole gardener with great plant knowledge and a comprehensive knowledge of garden machinery to maintain, improve and further enhance an historic country house garden near Ludlow.

The property has an extensive mature garden comprising of a recently renovated wildflower meadow, rose garden, extensive borders, formal lawns, fully productive kitchen garden, fruit trees, orchards, shrubbery and hazel grove. The garden contains extensive hedges and topiary of Yew, Beech and Laurel.  Garden maintenance also extends to the church grounds adjacent to the Hall.  The garden is an important part of this family’s home and the clients enjoy spending time in the garden and take a keen interest in it therefore the person appointed will need to be able to plan and prioritise their own workload whilst working closely with the owners.

Whilst the gardener will have sole responsibility of the day-to-day maintenance of the garden, seasonal help in the gardens is available to maintain the lawns.  The person appointed will be someone who takes pride in their work and will maintain and present this garden to high standard. They should be able to work in a small team as well as manage external contractors if engaged from time to time. Other staff employed on the estate include a small maintenance team and housekeeping staff.

The family have dogs and other small animals so it would be helpful if the gardener could help with some property security and animal care when required.

This is a long-term role for someone who is passionate about gardening and will take pride in their work. In addition to the main garden, you will also be asked to help with a small amount of maintenance gardening on a small number of properties on the estate.
