A catering company is looking for a great Head Chef to join its Formula 1 catering team.
This is a very exciting role, with the chance to travel around the world and to see different places! Only suitable for someone, who is keen for this lifestyle, and potentially has experience of working on yachts or doing seasonal work. The role will be based in London, but with travel around the Formula 1 circuit throughout the year. There will be up to about 25 weeks of the year spent travelling with the team, and it will be to all of the circuits. It tends to be a week in London, followed by a week away, but this is not always the case. For further away Grand Prixs (e.g. Australia) the Head Chef would be away for about ten days, but for European circuits, it would just be a few days of travel.
The Head Chef will be answerable to the catering company's Head Chef whilst in London, and then will report into the race teams when abroad. The Head Chef will lead a team of three Chefs and a KP for the fly-aways (long distance) and a team of five Chefs and a KP for European legs. All kitchens are built on site and have to be broken down again. Every day, the Head Chef will be cooking an Ottolenghi style buffet for the world's media; a VIP service for the team, which includes a choice of four starters, four mains and four puddings; and then also food for the team. It is simple cooking but with exquisite ingredients, for example beef Carpaccio or lobster linguine. The Head Chef needs to be ingredient led, and be able to source ingredients locally and from all around the world, whether it's in Japan or Austria. Creativity is also key, and someone with experience working from locations would be ideal.
When back in London, the Head Chef will be based in the London kitchen team. Menu planning, ordering, costing will all take place at this stage. Shopping for dry goods and loading them onto planes for the fly-aways, and loading the fridge trucks for the European legs is essential in London.
Package: £40,000 gross per annum plus discretionary bonus. Flights, travel, accommodation and food are paid when overseas, and there is the ability to change up to three flights per year. 20 days holiday per year, plus bank holidays and the company is closed between Christmas and New Year.
