Live In Head Gardener Job, Surrey
An excellent opportunity for a Head Gardener to manage a team of 3 on a beautiful country estate close to Guildford - after many years of service the current Head Gardener is retiring
The Estate is situated in 500 acres and has an Estate Team and a Gardening Team - as a Head Gardener you will be heading up the Gardening team on a day to day basis and be responsible for the formal gardens
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Assisting the Head of Gardens to ensure the gardens are developed and maintained to the highest standards. This is to be achieved through a combination of the annual maintenance programme and project implementation and completion where required
Manage the day-today running of the gardens, taking a hands-on approach. Lead the garden team effectively and professionally, with energy and enthusiasm. This will include direct responsibility for performance management, objective setting and professional development. Integrate the garden team with the rest of the estate departments to ensure a holistic and cohesive working environment on the estate.
Manage the supervision of contractors who may operate within the garden areas, including preventative conservation measures where appropriate to ensure that aesthetic standards are not compromised.
Ensure an appropriate standard of maintenance is applied to all garden buildings, paths, walls, fences and gates.
Uphold all health & safety regulations, ensuring that all garden team members also comply.
Undertake and schedule the role of garden duty manager on a rotational basis e.g. weekend activity, watering etc.
Residential staff are required to make themselves available for visits and become part of the emergency and salvage team, responding to emergencies or incidents as directed.
Ensure that all machinery and equipment is maintained in good working order. This will include carrying out weekly or daily checks on equipment and machinery and making repairs where possible, reporting all machinery issues to the Head of Gardens and advising on potential new equipment where necessary.
Maintaining water features, associated pumps and filtration systems and informing the Head of Gardens of any issues.
Keeping all service areas, workshops, mess rooms and other areas used by the garden team clean, tidy and well organised.
Report to the Head of Gardens when new materials/supplies are needed to be replaced/ordered.
Assisting at the client’s other properties when requested.
They are looking for Head Gardener who holds Horticultural qualifications (ideally RHS Level 2 or equivalent) and has ideally worked on private estates and has a wide range of knowledge, you should be hands on and have great attention to detail and be a good leader. You should be IT literate
Accommodation - A separate 2 bedroom cottage on the estate - suitable for families and pets - Gardener to pay own utility bills except Council Tax
Start Date - September onwards
Working Week - Monday to Friday - Occasional weekends if family require
Salary - £30K Gross per Annum
