Greycoat Lumleys client are seeking a Housekeeper to live and work in a historic family home in the beautiful Speyside area of the North East of Scotland


The position of Housekeeper is likely to be structured as follows:


  • The role is varied and will include both hands-on housekeeping and front-of-house elements

  • The position involves working in a team of four part-time housekeepers and within the wider Estate team

  • Ensuring the Castle is ready for tourists during the summer opening season and for other visitors throughout the year

  • Polishing the silver and brass, dusting and cleaning other decorative objects, as well as caring for the antique furniture and paintings

  • Laying the table for formal lunches and dinners in the Dining Room.

  • Serving at formal lunches and dinners, including serving drinks, coffee, etc.

  • General assistance with welcoming guests to the Castle, including preparing bedrooms for overnight guests, helping with lunches at the fishing hut, preparing coffee trays, etc.

  • Liaising closely with the Principals and with the Cook on all elements of hospitality

  • Supervising and where necessary assisting with the cleaning and tidying of other areas, e.g. the Estate Office

  • Overseeing and helping where necessary with the cleaning of the ‘private’ side of the Castle.

  • Laundry and ironing

  • On average approximately 25 hours work per week, probably more at the height of the busy summer season.

  • This total will include around 20 hours of regular morning housekeeping duties per week

  • Additional hours assisting with events at the Castle, for example formal dinners

  • Optional extra role of possibly 1-2 afternoons per week during the summer season in tourism, for instance welcoming visitors to the Castle or working in the Castle Gift Shop



This is a role of considerable responsibility which may at times include supervisory elements. The Housekeeper will be entrusted with ensuring that high standards are maintained and that the Castle is well presented and organised.

We are looking for a reliable person who has an eye for detail and who takes pride in their work. The ideal candidate will have a friendly demeanour, will like children and dogs and will be happy working both on their own and as part of a team. Flexibility and occasional longer hours will be required at busy times of year, including in the evenings and at weekends.


Start: ASAP


Days: Generally Monday to Friday in the winter and Sunday to Friday in the summer; however, flexibility is required.

Accommodation: Detached house (unfurnished) in the grounds of the estate. Council Tax will be paid by the Principals
