Live Out Gardener Job – Surrey

An excellent opportunity to join a small team and assist the Head Gardener to ensure the gardens are developed and maintained to the highest aesthetic and horticultural standards. This stunning estate has extensive lawns, woodland areas, water features, mixed shrub and herbaceous borders and walled formal gardens containing a productive kitchen garden and large rose garden with extensive arbours.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years’ experience of working as a gardener and have the equivalent of level 2 Horticulture qualification

Duties to include:

  1. Plant and maintain a wide variety of plants and borders including seasonal displays through handweeding, mulching and the application of fertilisers and pesticides
  2. Pruning and training a wide variety of plants with emphasis on all types of roses – using ladders and scaffolding where appropriate
  3. Topiary of an extensive buxus hedge
  4. Maintaining a display Glasshouse including the plants, water feature and general cleanliness.
  5. Maintenance of garden buildings, paths, walls and gates

It will be ideal that you will have plant knowledge and all-round horticultural skills, including experience using small machinery and hand tools. It would be preferable but not essential for applicants to hold a recognised horticultural qualification.

Experience of working in a large garden of a similar nature would also be advantageous. PA1/PA6 spraying certificates and other additional qualifications would be desirable, though not essential as training can be provided if necessary.

Ideally you will have your own transport due to semi-rural location and distance from public transport links. There may also be a requirement to spend time assisting at other locations on occasion.
