Maternity cover from February to December 2021, full-time (Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 16:00 minimum)

Job description

The successful candidate will cook for an active diplomat with high responsibilities based in London at their residence. They will prepare weekly menus, shop for ingredients, and prepare fresh meals. They will be able to adapt to the nutritional requirements of the employer and of their guests and ensure the food is always cooked and served at the highest standard possible. On some occasions, the chef will cook for high profile guests and impeccable preparation and presentation will be required. This role will suit someone with a positive attitude who is able to work autonomously and has excellent manners. The Client is looking for a chef who can cook simple and healthy food on a day-to-day basis while occasionally preparing more complex meals.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Buying ingredients and preparing meals on a daily basis accordingly to the employer’s schedule (some meals will need to be prepared in advance)
  • Dressing the table and serving the guests or arranging for a butler to be hired when there are more than 4 guests
  • Preparing canapés for receptions or aperitifs on an occasional basis
  • Cleaning the kitchen and keeping it tidy at the end of each work day
  • Keeping track of all expenses and preparing receipts and invoices for the accounting
  • Assisting the household and staff where required. The job holder may be required to carry out other ad hoc duties
  • From time to time the job holder may be required to work longer hours on evenings (dinner parties) or on weekends; advance notice will be given


Skills and experience required:

  • Some previous professional cooking/catering/food service experience
  • Having an understanding of nutritional properties and dietary requirements
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage time and tasks effectively
  • Ability to procure and use ingredients intelligently in order to source the best quality products within budget and to avoid waste
  • Flexibility to effectively deal with unexpected events and changes to the workload
  • Confident dealing with very high profile people and their requirements
  • Friendly, approachable manner, enthusiastic and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Absolute discretion, ability to handle confidential information
  • English: Fluent
  • Non-smoker


We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-sufficient and versatile individual who will enjoy preparing meals for the Client and her guests and being in charge of the process from A to Z. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, have confident yet sympathetic manners and be able to manage their tasks in a pragmatic and independent way.
