Residential Nurse Matron Job

Greycoat Lumleys are looking for a Nurse Matron to start at a prestigious girls school near St Albans. This is a fantastic position for someone who has experience of working with children and who really cares about ensuring that their needs are met especially within a boarding setting.

Duties:

  • To provide pastoral care to the girls
  • Adhere to the School’s Safeguarding (Child Protection) policy ensuring all concerns are immediately passed on to the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • To provide a direct link between parents and the school on all aspects of the girls’ pastoral life
  • To work with their Housemistress, Houseparent and Boarding Assistant to care for the girls in the House
  • This includes sharing some of the BA and HP jobs, such as Laundry, Break and Supper Duties and hospital appointments
  • To cover shifts in the Medical Centre during the week
  • To administer medication in house where required
  • To encourage and develop a quiet working atmosphere in the House
  • To be responsible for discipline, standards of behaviour, manners and dress
  • To ensure that the House fabric and furnishings are maintained in a clean and tidy state and to report any damage to equipment, furniture or fittings
  • To liaise closely with Tutors, the Head of Sixth Form and with teaching staff to promote the educational welfare of pupils in the House
  • To support pupils in events e.g. concerts, competitions and sports fixtures
  • To manage the administration of the House, travel and weekend arrangements, daily routine matters and all decisions concerning the girls and the House
  • To be fully involved in the weekend programme, including running and organising trips and activities
  • To keep records, correspondence and all relevant information concerning the girls, to include an up to-date record of co-curricular activities, in accordance with the School’s Record Keeping Policy and the Data Protection Act
  • To implement and follow School policies and procedures and ensuring all health and safety matters are dealt with promptly and accurately
  • To liaise with Medical Centre staff to ensure the medical welfare of pupils in the House is effective
  • To attend various meetings including the Pastoral team, House team and Medical Centre meetings
  • To attend all official school functions eg Speech Day, Open Mornings, Confirmation, Carol Services, Chapel Services, Sports Day, Parents’ Meetings and Parents’ Association events
  • To keep the Deputy Head Pupils, the Assistant Head (Boarding) and Head of Sixth Form informed of any matters relating to girls, as required
  • Other duties relevant to this post as directed by the Principal, Deputy Head Pupils and Assistant Head (Boarding)
