While the city has plenty of appeal - trains that run late so you can get back home after your Friday drinks (or go straight from Friday drinks to Saturday morning coffee), a different type of restaurant on every corner and inspiring cultural experiences occurring daily - sometimes it’s nice to slow down, sit back, and take in your surroundings. And if you’re a little bored of the sight of concrete giants everywhere you go, why not consider swapping your city job for something a little closer to nature?

At Greycoat Lumleys, we connect talented, experienced candidates with placements that require staff. Not only do we cover all household staff, such as Nannies, Housekeepers, Chauffeurs, Couples and Chefs, but we also welcome candidates who are looking for rural estate jobs, Gardeners, Maintenance/Handyman and Estate Managers

Whether you want to maintain a large, rural garden, keep a public estate garden tidy, or work as part of a close-knit team on a family estate, we have a wealth of positions available. Plus, we make sure that each placement is suited to the clients’ needs. So not only do you as a candidate get to work using your expertise and experience, but we make sure that you’re working in a place where those skills are truly valued.

What are the different rural estate jobs available?

Looking to try something different in 2023? Consider leaving the bustle of London behind, and catch the end of the shooting season somewhere in the countryside.

If you’re a Chef, consider expanding your horizons and working as a lodge cook for the remainder of the shooting season! Lodge cooks can work closely with their environment - there’s no Tesco onsite, so as a lodge cook, you must be able to work with fresh produce, and ideally, have an extensive knowledge of cooking with game, fresh fish, and other locally sourced produce. Becoming one of our talented temporary cooks could mean that you work in anything from a state of the art kitchen to a small, not often used, family environment.

If you work with a partner, we can also provide placements for couples - you might be expected to take over the running of the property , security, cooking, housekeeping, and meeting and greeting and generally keeping a large estate running smoothly for your principal

Greycoat Lumleys is also able to provide positions for Gardeners. Maybe you have enough experience under your belt to work as a Head Gardener, or you want to work as the sole Gardener on a smaller estate. You might even be a greenhouse specialist, looking for your next set of warmer-than-average plants to take care of.

What are the benefits of a rural estate job?

There’s no end to the attractions of a rural estate job. As we have mentioned, there’s no better place if you’re looking to escape the noise and constant energy of the city. After all, what better way to spend your day off than waking up late with a long, slow breakfast (no doubt made from locally sourced produce), followed by a walk in some of the most scenic locations that the UK has to offer?

If you’ve found the business of London at Christmas a little suffocating, there’s no better thing to look forward to in the New Year than a literal change of scenery. Swap the highrise for the horizon!

If you’re interested in any of the career opportunities we’ve mentioned, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We’re always looking to expand our base of talented and experienced candidates. Equally, if you’re in need of a Housekeeper, Gardener, Estate staff, or Lodge staff, reach out to us, and we’ll make sure to find you the perfect candidate, tailored to your requirements.
