Could A Combination Nanny And Housekeeper Be The Right Fit For You?

  • Publish Date: Posted 10 months ago

Families are complicated, and in our experience, every family has different needs, especially when it comes to helping around the house. Many of our clients require a multitude of services, and one of our most common requests is someone who can help both with childcare and general housework.

What is a nanny/housekeeper, and why would it work for me?

A live-in nanny and housekeeper (or simply a nanny and housekeeper, if you don’t have the space for a live-in candidate) is the perfect solution for many of our clients. A combination nanny and housekeeper does exactly what it says on the tin (so to speak) - it’s an individual who is able to complete both some childcare and some housekeeping duties. The balance between the areas is of course dependent on what the client requires.

Perhaps you are a parent with a busy work schedule, and you could use some help around the house. Not only that, but you would appreciate someone you trust being able to help with the school run, childcare in the evenings, and perhaps the occasional weekend nannying. A combination nanny and housekeeper is an individual who is able to be flexible with their time and duties depending on what is required. Another common situation is a family with older children, who have different needs and don’t necessarily need round the clock care, as well as some general housework. Combination nanny/housekeepers can be live-in or live-out positions, depending on your needs and preferences. Hiring someone in a live-out position will require a slightly higher salary, in order to compensate for the usual rent, bills, commuting, and living expenses.

It’s also important to note that combination roles do not mean that you get the services of two positions for the salary of one. Balancing your employees duties is important, as is providing a decent wage in exchange for their services. If you’re interested in a combination position but you’re not quite sure what you need, get in touch with us, and one of our team will be only too happy to help.

What other combination roles are there?

Another popular role is that of a nanny / personal assistant. This is perhaps more suited to families where the children are at school or nursery - after completing drop off, the nanny / personal assistant can organise and complete family and household admin, family calendar management, organise the smooth running of the house, or support parents who work from home (among other things).

We also have a number of candidates who are very flexible - whether you need someone to travel with and your family, or stay in the family house while you travel for work, our experienced and capable candidates will be able to take care of things at home.

What are the benefits of a combination role?

There are many advantages to hiring someone in a combination role. You’ll be able to build a long-term, lasting relationship with your employee, which is a particularly important part of the candidate and client relationship. At Greycoat Lumleys, we’re well aware that absolute trust between a client and a candidate is essential, and we pride ourselves on our exemplary database of expert candidates, and our experience in matching clients to candidates who can help them.

A combination role also means that you have the advantage of flexibility. A housekeeper and nanny (or other combination roles) can split their duties depending on your requirements, which means that you can get help in exactly the areas you need.

At Greycoat Lumleys, we’re aware that every child is different, and every family is different, which is why we pride ourselves on the range of flexible solutions that we offer our clients. From permanent, live-in placements, to temporary and part-time cover, we’re certain that you’ll have full confidence in our ability to find a candidate that perfectly suits your family and your lifestyle.
