Housekeeper Gardener Couple Job
Greycoat Lumley's client are seeking an experienced Housekeeper and Gardener for a busy Private Estate close to the coast in Southwest Scotland.
The Housekeeper is required to provide housekeeping for the private family, guests and holiday cottages and the Gardener will join a small team of gardeners. The estate includes beautiful gardens open to the public, a home farm, and picturesque hills, lochs and rivers to explore and enjoy. The estate is a wonderful location for a Couple to enjoy the outdoors and stunning scenery. Other members of staff work and live on the estate.
Housekeeper – working directly to the wife of the owner of the estate
Housekeeper / domestic cleaning to a high standard for a large historic house
Shopping and laundry
Provision of security for the house
Household management, e.g. dealing with part-time cleaners, contractors and tradesmen when required
Supported by maintenance and estate office
Management and maintenance of three-holiday cottage lets and a small team of cleaners
Occasional other duties include
Front-of-house service for corporate events, weddings, sporting parties and future house opening
Cooking – able to cook delicious, healthy meals for the family
Driving
Occasional child-minding

The position is based on a five-day a week schedule, 8.30 am—5.00 pm, including Saturdays (approximately three per month), except for special events that may involve weekends and some evenings on a split shift basis. Days off will be given in lieu of weekend working.
Gardener Duties
The grounds are on a privately owned estate with a diversified varied let property portfolio; in-hand farming, forestry, tourism and country sports enterprises. It includes a number of renowned horticultural landscapes.
Reporting directly to the Head Gardener and the Owners, this position will entail working as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive plant knowledge, a keen interest in gardens and historic landscapes, be well motivated with an eye for detail. Specialist knowledge and appreciation of rhododendrons will be an advantage but is not essential.
Use of machinery will be required and possession of pesticide/chainsaw certificates is preferred, although training can be provided.
This position is full time with normal working hours from 8.00 am to 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday. Additional hours will be required at weekends and the Gardener is expected to participate in weekend greenhouse checking and watering and rotas at the appropriate times of year and as necessitated by the needs of the garden.
Key responsibilities
Maintain the gardens to trees, shrubs, herbaceous borders, annual borders, hedges and lawns
Planting, division, cultivation, propagation, weeding, and mulching, feeding, watering, pruning, tying-in, staking and dead heading
To use and maintain tools and machinery including brush cutters, pedestrian and ride on mowers, rotavators, tractors and trailers
Responsible for providing basic guidance of trainees and volunteers under the supervision of the Head Gardener
Embrace new projects and schemes and assist in their implementation
Requirements
Experience of working in gardens and public parks
Sound experience of tractor mounted and pedestrian operated horticultural machinery
Experience of cultivating a wide variety of plants including herbaceous perennials, cut flowers, climbers, shrubs and trees
Able to demonstrate good health and safety awareness
Both applicants need to be able to drive
