Live-in Estate Couple Job in Hertfordshire

Position: Live-in Couple (Housekeeper & Groundsman/Houseman)

A young family of four is seeking a dedicated and energetic Live-in Couple to act as guardians for their beautiful weekend residence in Hertfordshire, near Kings Langley. This estate serves as a weekend and school holiday retreat. We are looking for a couple who will treat the property with the same care and attention as if it were their own.

The estate comprises a six-bedroom main residence and four ancillary buildings. The family frequently entertains, and at full occupancy, the household may accommodate up to 14 guests.

The successful candidates will ensure the estate is perfectly prepared for the family’s arrival and that all needs are met during their stay. This role requires a high level of security consciousness, particularly regarding opening and closing procedures.

The ideal couple should be friendly, professional, and possess a "can-do" attitude when interacting with the family and other staff members. Previous experience in a private household or high-end hospitality is essential, as well as a good standard of cooking and a keen eye for detail. Fluency in both written and spoken English is necessary, along with computer literacy, which includes the ability to use emails, WhatsApp, and the internet. Additionally, both individuals must hold a valid manual driving license. Lastly, candidates should be animal-friendly, security-minded, and highly organised.

Housekeeper 

  • Housekeeping: Maintain high standards of cleanliness across all buildings; perform periodic deep cleans and create efficient cleaning schedules.
  • Laundry & Wardrobe: Manage all laundry and ironing to a high standard.
  • Kitchen assisting: The family likes to cook for themselves but may need help or a quick meal from time to time. You will need to manage the pantry and undertake grocery shopping.
  • Management: Manage cleaning supplies, receive deliveries, and chaperone contractors.
  • Service: Provide Food and Beverage service when the family is in residence or during events.

Groundsman / Houseman

  • Estate Maintenance: Ensure all outdoor areas are clean, safe, and manicured.
  • Facilities Management: Prepare the BBQ, pizza oven, and jacuzzi; oversee biomass boiler checks, solar panel care, and potential pool maintenance.
  • Vehicle Care: Clean and maintain cars and boats.
  • Security & Logistics: Act as a key holder; strictly follow opening and closing procedures; manage waste collection and record deliveries.
  • Support: Assist with simple family cooking, driving duties, and F&B service during events.
  • Animal care: The family have alpacas and chickens that will need feeding and some general care.

 

Working Hours: 40 hours per week over 5 days. Flexibility is required during family visits.

Days Off: Typically Wednesday and Thursday, though this may shift depending on guest occupancy.

Accommodation: A stunning, newly converted barn featuring two ensuite bedrooms, a fully equipped modern kitchen/diner, and a lounge. Please note the accommodation is not suitable for children, but pets will be considered.

Salary: £80,000 GPA
