Live out Handyman/Driver Job in Surrey

A client of Greycoats is looking for an experienced Handyman/Driver to work on their large estate. This is a wide and varied role comprising a Main Residence, Ancillary Accommodation, Stable Yard, Gallops, Paddocks, Farm Buildings – in all c. 600 acres (majority under farm tenancy). 

The candidate will be supporting the Principal and his wife when participating in country sports, including multiple fishing and shooting trips throughout the season with several overnight stays. Responsible for preparation of vehicle, maintenance and preparation of guns/ammunition, fishing equipment etc. Accompanying the Principal and his wife, driving to and loading at shoots. Looking after the dogs as required.

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience with estate maintenance, including grounds, property and woodland management, they will be proactive, organised and be adaptable. They will be trustworthy, discreet and have excellent communication skills. 

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Property Maintenance, including miscellaneous repairs, fixes, fault reporting, and remedial works
  • Grounds – hedge cutting, fence repairs, woods/vegetation clearance, grounds maintenance/tidying, collecting firewood
  • Woodland Management – supporting the Principal’s Woodland Management Plan, liaising with other Estate Staff and Partners
  • Point of Contact for Estate Suppliers including Alarm, Phone System, Utilities etc.
  • Arranging routine inspection visits, overseeing visitors/engineers: Alarm System maintenance: arranging site visits, maintenance, reporting errors (potentially keyholder depending on location), PV Panel maintenance, Swimming Pool maintenance, Wine Cellar, Lift
  • Maintaining the Principal’s sporting equipment, including servicing of shotguns and rifles, and maintaining fishing equipment
  • Supporting other Estate Staff when required, including Gardener, Housekeeper/Cook, Stable Yard
  • Misc. duties including window cleaning (ground floor only), dog walking, feeding chickens, basic handyman/miscellaneous duties when required (increasing during periods when the Principal or House staff are away)
  • Occasional support required at the Principal’s London Property
  • Prompt collection and delivery of the Principal and his wife (or others when required and by agreement with the Principal) to various locations and at various times, anticipating route and where possible any potential traffic issues which may impact the Principal’s schedule. Driving will include some evenings and weekends (eligible for overtime).
  • Car to be garaged overnight at the Principal’s main address unless otherwise agreed in advance with the Principal or his wife.
  • By pre-arrangement, Long Distance Trips, including delivery/collection of vehicle from the Principals’ Main Address to Scotland for annual trip (return transport will be provided) and supporting the Principal during Shooting Season.
  • By pre-arrangement, accompanying the Principal and his wife for specific stages of a Cycling Event in France, usually between 3 – 5 days maximum, using the Principal’s vehicle. (Accommodation and expenses provided).
  • Liaising closely with the Principal and his PA, & Accountant, particularly around working hours and requirements, receiving instructions on the Principal’s behalf. Ensuring that paperwork/records are well maintained and shared when required.
  • Working collaboratively with all Estate staff, ensuring clear communication

 

Working week: Monday - Friday, but with some flexibility
