Private Italian Chef – Italy, Europe & Travel with Principal

Location: Primarily Tuscany, Italy (with travel to Rome, St Tropez, Gstaad)
Employment Type: Permanent (approx. 6 months per year)
Salary: EURO 5,000 NET per month
Start Date: First week of January 2026


Overview:

An international family based primarily in Rome, Italy, is seeking a Private Italian Chef to join their household. The role offers a high degree of flexibility, working approximately six months annually, and would suit a dynamic, discreet, and passionate chef who thrives in both formal and relaxed private household environments. The ideal candidate will be happy working in a private household team and speak fluent Italian. 

The family includes the Principal, his wife, and their 1-year-old child, accompanied by a nanny. The Chef will should plan their time effectively to cook usually two meals per day for both guests and staff, and have the flexibility to prepare breakfast on occasion, or pre-plan breakfasts the family can easily serve themselves.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare fresh, seasonal, and health-conscious meals for the family and occasional guests.
  • Cater for the nanny and occasionally prepare family-style meals or pastries for informal dinners.
  • Support the family during travel periods – including time in Italy, Switzerland, France, United Kingdom and Greece.
  • Maintain high culinary standards while being adaptable to changing plans and schedules.
  • Plan menus, source fresh local ingredients, and ensure smooth kitchen operations across multiple properties.
  • Collaborate with household staff and the UK-based chef to maintain consistency and discretion.
  • Respect the family’s privacy and household preferences; maintain a low profile and professional demeanour at all times.

Schedule & Travel Pattern

  • January – March: Working period/March often downtime 
  • April – May: Working period
  • June – August: Off (family travels independently)
  • September – October: Working period
  • November – December: Off

The family enjoys cooking for themselves on occasion, so the Chef will not be required full-time during all working periods. Downtime between assignments is permitted, and the family is open to the Chef taking external engagements during these times, provided this role remains the priority.

Flexibility will be required but we anticipate a maximum of 7 months’ work annually.


Accommodation

  • In main bases, a staff flat will be provided; which may need to be shared at certain times of the year. When travelling, accommodation in the family accommodations will be provided, or a local hotel.

Candidate Profile

  • Nationality: Ideally Italian (or fluent in Italian language & cuisine).
  • Experience: Strong background in private households, yachting, or luxury hospitality environments.
  • Cuisine Style: Authentic Italian, with emphasis on healthy, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients—particularly fresh fish and Mediterranean produce.
  • Personality: Humble, adaptable, and discreet—comfortable working closely with the family.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Full driving licence (essential)
    • No dependants or pets (preferred, due to travel demands)
    • Flexible and able to adapt to changing schedules
    • Team player – must work well alongside existing staff and other chefs
    • Female preferred (though all qualified applicants will be considered)

    • Confidential appointment — references and background checks will be required.
    • The family seeks someone with energy, curiosity, and a genuine passion for Italian food and hospitality, who enjoys a varied and international lifestyle.
    • The current UK-based chef, was hired through Greycoat; the Principals wish to maintain the same level of professionalism and discretion.
