Live-In Caretaker/Security Job, Berkshire

A client of ours is looking for a Caretaker to ensure the security and smooth running of the family's home, assist with general maintenance, and maintain the presentation standards of the building and surrounding areas. Support and follow instructions from the Head Housekeeper. Perform event support duties, including cleaning.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and close the house daily, including opening/closing curtains/shutters, checking room conditions, and setting the intruder alarm.
  • Carry out daily tasks such as newspaper collection, cleaning shoes, and shopping.
  • Dispose of waste materials safely and hygienically.
  • Share the care of the family dogs, including walking, feeding, and washing.
  • Clean and maintain family cars, including routine checks and ensuring MOT, insurance, service, and tax are up to date.
  • Support the Head Housekeeper in kitchen/pantry duties and provide front-of-house service to family and guests.
  • Monitor stock levels of consumables and arrange for replenishment.
  • Perform system checks/tests on intruder and fire alarm systems and report faults.
  • Take responsibility for house security and act as the main key holder/first responder for intruder alarm activations.
  • Take responsibility for premises safety and act as the main key holder/first responder for fire alarm activations.
  • Operate and maintain heating equipment efficiently, report defects, and manage household systems and equipment.
  • Address unauthorised access to the house and gardens while remaining polite and courteous.
  • Report suspicious activities and secure gates, doors, and windows daily.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations, legislation, and estate policies.
  • Maintain the wine cellar, including stock management and rotation.
  • Drive family members using family/estate vehicles.
  • Serve as a point of contact for visitors and contractors, collect post and deliveries, and answer the telephone.
  • Perform other tasks requested by the Head Housekeeper and the family to ensure smooth household management.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues, demonstrate a team ethos, and perform active event support duties.

The ideal candidate will have a clean driving license, proficient IT skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other programs, basic DIY skills, and Emergency First Aid at Work Training (or willingness to complete ASAP).

 

Accommodation: Large one-bedroom flat within the house.  Parking available. Partner and one small well-behaved dog considered.

Days & Hours:  5 days with days off during the week, 40 hours

Start Date: Flexible for the right person

Salary: £31k - £35k GPA Depending on experience
