Couple Job

Greycoat Lumley's client are seeking a Couple for their Private Estate on an island in Argyll and Bute, Scotland.  The Couple’s dwelling is situated on the mainland the and Principal’s house on the island.  The estate is mainly covered by indigenous woodland.  The island is accessible by boat.

The role of caretakers for the Estate is to provide general maintenance and security.  The current Couple on the estate have been there for 10 years and embraced the lifestyle.

Duties include:

  • All ground and property maintenance

  • Housekeeping

  • Laundry

  • Maintenance of indoor swimming pool

  • Maintenance of water treatment facility

  • Regular fire and intruder systems testing

  • Regular record keeping of properties and diary keeping of maintenance to machinery and plant

  • Expense keeping and reporting

  • Communication to principals on regular basis. 

Motorised Machinery

There are a number of motorised items of machinery at the estate, both petrol and diesel, which require knowledge of operation, and regular servicing and maintenance. A good working knowledge of maintenance is needed, but ability to undertake major repair is not. Here liaison with local companies is required. 

Grounds Maintenance

Kubota tractor with twin rotor rotary mowing deck. Diesel engine needs servicing: Battery, belts, oils, and fluids,. Mower deck needs annual removal, cleaning, and servicing: Belts, rust, blades etc. 

Boats

There are five powered boats on the estate. All engines require regular maintenance, and/or winterisation, and familiarisation with the requirements of each is necessary.  Once a year some antifouling paint to be applied.

All boats are required to be kept to a high standard of operational maintenance, a couple with a high standard of aesthetic maintenance.

Ability to launch and recover all boats is a requirement.

The caretakers need to be able to apply common sense, have good self motivation, and a ‘can do attitude’.
