Gardener/Handyperson Job in Perthshire

Greycoat Lumley's clients are seeking a permanent Live-In Gardener/Handyperson (or couple) for their Private Family Estate in Perthshire, Scotland.

The role is Full Time (with a possible part-time role for partner in housekeeping or office work). Principals live in the Main House and run a busy farm and country estate. They are low key, very active, with a down to earth, hands-on approach and are very much involved in the everyday activities.

Applicants must enjoy living and working in the countryside on a traditional rural estate and ideally you will have had experience in a similar role. The team numbers six. It is important that the Gardener/Handyperson should work with others as a team member and become part of the estate family.

Couples with young families welcome. Community support structure is excellent. Access to fresh air, space and the natural world in abundance. Local primary school two miles distant with school bus service.

The estate is conveniently located in the beautiful Highlands, yet within reasonable distance to cities such as Perth, Dundee and Edinburgh.

Applicant should be self-motivated and hard working.  Dog lover essential.

Duties will include:

  • Spring – preparation of the vegetable garden and polytunnel, sowing vegetable seeds

  • Summer - maintenance of the orchard, mowing, planting, weeding, strimming and general maintenance of a well-established and beautiful garden.

  • Autumn - pruning, putting garden to bed, maintenance of gardening machinery and assisting the forestry team with log cutting for winter.

  • Winter - salting of roadways, maintaining clear access. Cutting, stacking delivery of firewood. Assistance with forestry work and other estate maintenance.

  • All year – responsibility for general tidiness of driveways and policy grounds. First level maintenance of main house and outbuildings and liaison with specialist trades as necessary.

  • Security -  Responsibility for security of main house on occasions when owners are away from home.

  • Specialist Equipment & Training - Experience in use of chainsaw, ATV, telehandler and tractor useful. Training will be provided as necessary

  • Transport -  ATV for use during working hours to enable access to all areas of the estate.

Hours:  Monday to Thursday - 8am to 5pm and Fridays 8am to 4pm.

              Flexibility in shorter working days in darker winter months and longer in summer.

Salary:   £25,000 PA + generous private pension scheme

Rent free occupation of cottage, Council Tax paid

Comfortable self-contained cottage on the estate with beautiful views. Cottage unfurnished, comprising three bedrooms, living room and kitchen. Wood burning stove which heats radiators in all rooms. Fenced garden with outbuildings. Firewood supplied.
