Live-in Housekeeper Job, Windermere, Cumbria

Greycoat Lumley's client, a warm and well-organised family based in Windermere, are seeking a caring, responsible, and flexible live-in Housekeeper to assist with day-to-day household duties and to support the mother in caring for two young children — a two-year-old and a newborn baby.

The family also have a gentle and friendly Labrador retriever, so the ideal candidate should be comfortable working around a dog. Occasionally, you may be asked to help with light dog-related tasks such as taking the dog for a walk or feeding.

This role would suit someone with previous childcare or housekeeping experience who is nurturing, proactive, and calm under pressure, with a genuine love of children, family life, and animals. 

Key Responsibilities

Household Support

  • Household cleaning and tidying (main living areas, kitchen, bedrooms, etc).

  • Laundry and ironing for the family

  • Meal preparation and occasional cooking for the family or children. 

  • Restocking household essentials and running small errands. 

  • Keeping the home well-organised and family-ready at all times.

Childcare Support

  • If needed, assist the mother with daily childcare routines, including feeding, bathing, dressing and bedtime.

  • Provide occasional sole charge of one or both children when required (e.g. short errands, appointments, etc.). Entertain, play with and supervise the children in a safe and stimulating manner.

  •  Support with nursery runs and occasional babysitting (with notice).

  •  Flexibility to accompany the family on holidays or trips, helping with childcare and daily routines while away. Or, house sitting and caring for the dog whilst the family are away.

Applicants must have a positive, discreet, and trustworthy presence within the household.  Flexibility to assist with family routines, especially during busier periods or when the father is travelling/working.  

This is a live-out housekeeper position, although temporary live-in accommodation may be available if the successful candidate is relocating or would find this helpful at the start. This would include a private bedroom and bathroom within the family home, with full board provided.

Working hours:

40 hours per week over 5 days. From time to time, pre-planned events may be required, which could exceed the standard hours. These additional hours will be paid or offered as time off in lieu.
