Live in Couple Job in Surrey

We are looking for a friendly and dedicated live in couple to help with the maintenance and housekeeping of a large country estate on the Surrey/Kent border. The principals have 3 grown up children and 10 grandchildren who will visit on occasion. From January, they will be getting a dog.

Also employed is a part time gardener once a week who focuses on the walled garden.

The estate lies within 7/8 acres of mainly lawns and woodland. The main property has 7/8 bedrooms.

The Gardener role will be full time, and the Housekeeper position will be part time.

Duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Keeping the house clean and tidy

  • Laundry and ironing

  • Care of antiques

  • Assistance in the kitchen when the principals are entertaining

  • Gardening (lawn mowing, hedge cutting, care of roses, weeding, pruning etc)

  • Maintaining the herbaceous borders

  • Walled garden maintenance

  • Swimming pool and tennis court maintenance

  • Exterior maintenance (such as outdoor painting and clearing gutters)

  • Interior maintenance (minor repairs and basic DIY)

  • Maintaining and operating garden machinery

  • Occasional driving duties (airport tuns, days trips etc)

  • House and dog sitting when the principal is away

  • Security

The ideal couple would be friendly and easy going. Good garden knowledge and experience is important.

Start: Flexible for the right couple

Accommodation: a 3-bedroom cottage on the driveway with a small garden. Pets and dependents will be considered.

Driving: at least one must be able to drive

Working days: Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work, like an airport run

Hours:

  • Gardener: 40 hours a week

  • Housekeeper: 15-20 hours a week (3 or 4 half days approx.)

They are happy that the successful candidates find other jobs locally to supplement their pay (as long as this does not conflict with our agreed arrangements).

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 gross per annum, depending on experience
