Live-Out Houseman/Driver Job in Kensington, West London

A returning client of Greycoat Lumleys is seeking an experienced Live-out Houseman to support an elderly gentleman residing in a large townhouse in Kensington, West London. The household is fully supported by an existing live-in Houseman, and this role will primarily cover the current Houseman’s days off and annual leave. 10% of your working time would be spent supporting the principal in the absence of the current Houseman, and the remainder of your time would be working for their wider business, predominantly their catering company and in their Deli/Café.

The principal requires assistance with mobility and uses a mobility scooter; however, no personal care is required. The ideal candidate will be experienced in private households, practical, flexible, and companionable, with strong organisational and driving skills. This is a hands-on role supporting both the household and the principal’s lifestyle, including travel outside London (but not abroad).
The successful candidate will be confident working independently while also integrating smoothly into an established household. Discretion, reliability, and a proactive attitude are essential.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the smooth running of the household  

  • Providing companionship and assistance (non-care)  

  • Driving the principal to appointments and engagements  

  • Driving the principal to his countryside property  

  • Assisting with business trips and travel support  

  • Running errands (a large part of the role)  

  • General housekeeping: tidying, organising, cleaning  

  • Laundry and ironing (limited)  

  • Keeping the garden tidy  

  • Carrying out light DIY and maintenance tasks across other properties

  • Working for their wider business, predominantly their catering company and in their Deli/Café

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a private household

  • Confident driver with a clean driving licence  

  • Comfortable with regular travel outside London  

  • Practical and hands-on with basic DIY skills  

  • Organised, discreet, and personable  

  • Able to work independently and cover an existing Houseman position

House: Large townhouse and a countryside residence

Working Days:

  • Week A: a 5-day week to include Sunday

  • Week B: a 5-day week to include Friday and Saturday

  • Additional days to allow for holiday cover for the existing Houseman

Hours: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm with flexibility to start and finish later as and when needed

Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience
