Live out Head Gardener near Norwich

A committed, knowledgeable and qualified Head Gardener/ Groundsman is sought to take responsibility for the care and ongoing development of a beautiful 20-acre private estate in the Norfolk countryside. This stunning estate, used by the family primarily at weekends and during school holidays, includes formal gardens, a productive kitchen garden, and wider ground ands and woodlands. It is a much-loved sanctuary for the family. From 2026, several times a month it will also serve as a retreat centre. 

The ideal candidate will hold horticultural qualifications and be personable and professional and comfortable to do the occasional garden tours. They will have interest/ experience in sustainability practices. They will be hands on, pro active and be confident operating garden machinery and tools. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete maintenance and development of the formal and kitchen gardens

  • Seasonal planting, propagation, pruning, weeding, mulching, and general plant care

  • Lawn mowing, edging, feeding, and aeration as required

  • Care of trees, hedges, and established beds.

  • Managing irrigation systems and garden machinery

  • Planning and implementing planting schemes and garden improvements in collaboration with the family

  • Upkeep of paths, terraces, garden furniture, and outdoor entertaining areas

  • Maintenance of the swimming pool and hot tub (desirable)

  • Maintenance of 2 ponds- 1 reflecting, 1 wild

  • Support with day to day site running and maintenance e.g. maintaining the wood pellet boiler, taking bins out, accepting deliveries

  • Monitoring and reporting on garden health, pest control, and general condition

  • Occasionally liaising with contractors, suppliers, or other tradespeople

  • Ensuring the garden is always guest-ready.

Working week: Monday - Friday, but with some flexibility

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 GPA with a generous package
