Why you should consider moving to the East Midlands.

Why you should consider moving to the East Midlands.
For those considering relocating, the East Midlands region offers good prospects and a great quality of life. The region comprises Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland. It may not be as well known as its neighbours, but what you will find is an area filled with thriving large cities, tranquil picture postcard villages and historic market towns, as well as vistas that will take your breath away.
It’s not just an area of outstanding natural beauty, but also an area that has some of the best career opportunities outside of London, given its newly reinvigorated economy and jobs market.
Plus the area’s house prices make it one of the best places to live in the UK for people looking to settle down.
The region is also advantageously located at the centre of England, therefore offering good transport links to the rest of the country and abroad.

The Area
An abundance of space combined with being the second least densely populated region of England adds to the East Midlands’ appeal. The area is often defined by its industrial past, but it’s also very close to some of Britain’s loveliest countryside, including the expansive moors and dales of The Peak District National Park, a fantastic location for hiking or family picnics. And of course there’s also Nottingham Forest, legendary home of Robin Hood. Lincoln, famous for its cathedral, is home to one of only four original copies of the Magna Carta, and Lincoln Castle is one of the UK’s best-preserved Norman fortresses. If you’re a fan of the coast, the resorts of Cleethorpes and Skegness with their sandy beaches will delight.

Career Opportunities
Employment in the East Midlands historically came from the textiles industry, although manufacturing has largely replaced that, which is still going strong, and the service sector is also growing rapidly, boosted by a number of companies moving their headquarters to the East Midlands,
The area is also becoming a hotspot for new industries such as science-based start-ups. All this new activity has stimulated the commercial and residential property market, with many new developments and refurbishments in progress.

Housing
For many the appeal of the East Midlands is that the average price of property in the East Midlands remains well below the average UK price although house prices in the area increased by 6.5% in 2018, significantly faster than the national average of 3.2%.

Education
The region is not short of great schools, both comprehensive and private, including the famous Repton School and Lincolnshire retains fifteen state grammar schools.

Eating and drinking
The region is home to the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie and several world-famous kinds of cheese including Stilton and red Leicester, plus the perennially favourite Bakewell tart.

This is not just an area of natural beauty, but it also offers some of the best career opportunities outside London. Plus, affordable house prices help to make the East Midlands one of the best places to live in the UK.
