Scotland Nanny

Hiring a Nanny in Scotland

Greycoat Lumleys Childcare & Education is registered with The Care Inspectorate to place Nannies and other Childcarers in Scotland.

In England, it is well known for Nannies to take the initiative and to become Ofsted Registered. But in Scotland, it is the Nanny agency that is regulated by The Care Inspectorate and it is incumbent on the Nanny to look for work through an approved agency.

After a rigorous and serious process, we were approved by The Care Inspectorate to place childcare staff in Scotland at the beginning of 2014. As well as the satisfactory completion of the paperwork, agencies are required to meet all The Care Inspectorate’s regulations in terms of good practice, meeting candidates, complaints procedures, post placement annual checks with Nannies, and much more, as well as being ready to be inspected at any time (much like an Ofsted assessment).

There are obvious similarities with the way the process works across the rest of the UK, though; the Care Inspectorate asks for the same vetting processes as we would naturally conduct when we meet Nannies and filter them carefully, including reference checks and checks via the PVG Scheme (the Scottish equivalent of DBS)

Quite different to the UK however, is the link between parents’ childcare vouchers and Nannies having to be registered through an approved agency and this is something which is worth double checking by parents.

If you have any questions about employing a Nanny in Scotland, or would like to know how to find a Nanny through an approved, recognised source, then contact the Greycoat Lumleys Scotland office on 0131 556 5139 and Katie Barbour will do her best to help.
